Description:
I am depicting different states of consciousness. I am hoping to make the viewer feel a sense of a spiritual narration through life. By using the space and my artwork, I hope that the viewer can reflect on what they feel is value and how they feel it might be important; I find that it sometimes takes a certain situation, encounter, or image to bring up a certain question which leads to change. It isn’t always when we think we will change that actual change occurs. This is a reference to Samsara, or the circle of suffering, in the path of buddhism, as I know it. One comes into existence with much ignorance of the way both objects, ourselves, and reality work. Through one’s extended sensing body, stream of consciousness and the effects of karma on reality, humans are given the chance to reach a place of understanding. It is one’s attachment to objects, both external and of the body and mind, which we ignorantly believe to make us happy. This happens because we believe that those objects make us happy AND that those objects are the way that they seem. For example, one may think something is always good or always bad like gangs are always bad and churches are always good. Another example is thinking that going out to the bar and having a drink is good and that someone tailgating you is bad; This misunderstanding is what actually leads to disappointment, miseries, and suffering. It is because one makes all things the way that they seem. The objects and the events outside our mind are actual reflections of our past karma of our past actions and in a way can be seen as the ultimate justification or the ultimate reason. One could call it the boomerang of living. There is much to question and much to be learned. Many times one will believe that they have found happiness and experience a truly wonderful feeling, but when does one stop desiring the next best thing, once one has obtained the current endeavor. Even in considerations of family and friends, what is to say that one won’t die tomorrow believing that money is the most important aspect of life, or family for that matter? When this time comes, there is no choice for the individual to all of a sudden change their mind and take back on the way they chose to live. Nor does karma stop effecting one based on their previous actions… There is importance in this life. One can choose to look deeper into reality while in consciousness; quite too often to take things as they appear, as they are. In truth, one finds out that these things are not what were always thought. The buddhist thinks that things, all things, are not the way they seem. Many philosophers and critical thinkers believe that most things, if not all things, are not the way they seem to be defined. This variation in perspective of all things is depicted by the emptiness of a tree, the tree representing an object and the ability for objects to hold our ideas and thoughts about them. An actual tree gives a clue to how seeds grow from a small, small matter into an entire habitation for many things. It is important to mention, what grows is always coming from the seed which was planted. This does not change; one does not plant a pine tree and get a cactus or an oak. What a buddhist sows is exactly what they reap, 10x fold. I have and make the choice to see everyday; In which way should I see things? This is the forever going debate. I will leave it at that.
